Marion McCollom Hampton
Senior Research Fellow
Marion McCollom Hampton is a co-founder and Senior Research Fellow at BanyanGlobal. She has been a leader in the family business field for more than 30 years and is a co-author of a foundational work in the field, Generation to Generation: Life Cycles of the Family Business. In 2013 she received the Richard Beckhard Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of family business.
Marion draws on her deep background in organizational psychology to help family owners to focus on relational and governance issues that must be addressed to ensure business continuity from generation to generation. She works closely with Banyan colleagues to bring wide-ranging expertise to issues as diverse as organizational dynamics, business strategy, conflict resolution, tax and estate planning and trust administration, and philanthropy. This interdisciplinary team works together seamlessly to help families make decisions, and move forward.
Before immersing herself in advisory work, Marion was a professor in the Organizational Behavior department of Boston University’s School of Management, during which time she published a number of articles on the structure and dynamics of family-owned business. She has served clients and run educational programs for business families in Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as in the United States.
She received an AB from Harvard University, a Masters of Management from the Yale School of Management, and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior, with Distinction, from Yale University. She is a member of the Kaw/Kanza tribe of Oklahoma and lives in Vermont. She has recently joined the Board of Trustees of Vermont Law School.
